West Raleigh is a neat area. There’s historic Boylan Avenue, tree-lined and shady. Dorothea Dix Campus is right across Western Boulevard, and all 306 acres will soon be converted into the crowning jewel in NC’s park system. A much smaller gem already exists nearby; Pullen Park was recently renovated into a child’s dream world, with paddleboats, a miniature train system, food, playground equipment and a real, old-timey merry-go-round. Across Ashe Avenue from Pullen is the Governor Morehead School for the Blind. Finally, next door to the GMSB and in the center of this relatively small section of the city is Central Prison, where we kill people.
